Acetylene - C2H2
Description
Acetylene is an organic compound with the chemical formula C2H2. It is commonly known as wind coal or calcium carbide gas, it is a hydrocarbon and the simplest alkyne. It is a colorless gas under normal temperature and pressure. It is one of the important raw materials for organic synthesis. It is also a monomer of synthetic rubber, synthetic fibers and plastics. It can also be used for oxyacetylene welding and cutting.
Typical Application
-
Metal Welding And CuttingWhen acetylene is mixed with oxygen and burned, it can produce a high-temperature flame of more than 3000℃, which is high enough to melt most metals, making metal welding and cutting easy.
-
Organic SynthesisAcetylene is an important starting material for the synthesis of many organic compounds. Through a series of complex chemical reactions, a variety of chemicals with important economic value can be prepared.
-
LightingAcetylene can emit bright white light when burning and has been widely used in mining lamps, lighthouses and some outdoor lighting equipment.
-
Scientific ResearchAs an important intermediate in organic synthesis, acetylene is involved in the synthesis of many complex organic compounds.
