High concentrations of helium discovered in Finland

British mining Company 80 MILE PLC (formerly Bluejay Mining) announced a breakthrough in exploration in the Outokumpu belt in Finland, detecting high concentrations ofhelium on the surface for the first time.

Using portable detectors, the company has measured up to 10.7% helium from historic drill holes in the Perttilahti area. This discovery exceeded expectations and indicates the area has the potential for an industrial gas resource.

Previously, helium had only been found dissolved in deeper groundwater, but its detection at the surface suggests easier and more commercially viable extraction. This is a significant milestone for the company and could accelerate the pace of further exploration of the 40km area.

In addition to the helium discovery, the company also found geological hydrogen at a concentration of up to 46%.

80 Mile plans to intensify its exploration efforts by conducting more detailed sampling and deeper testing in areas with higher helium concentrations. The company is also preparing a proof-of-concept study to assess the feasibility of extracting helium and hydrogen from existing drill holes. If successful, this would pave the way for commercial gas production, and the company is proceeding cautiously to ensure the viability of the project.
