How much do you know about n-butane?

2024-10-16

n-Butaneis an organic Compound with the chemical formula C4H10. It is a common alkane and a colorless, easily liquefied gas at room temperature and pressure.

In addition to being used directly as a fuel, n-butaneis also used as a subcritical biotechNOlogy extraction solvent, refrigerant, and organic synthesis raw material. Butane is dehydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst to produce butene or butadiene, and is isomerized in the presence of sulfuric acid or anhydrous hydrofluoric acid to produce isobutane. Isobutane is catalytically dehydrogenated to produce isobutylene, and isobutane can also be used as an alkylating agent to react with olefins to produce branched hydrocarbons with good anti-explosion properties. Butane can be used to produce maleic anhydride, acetic acid, acetaldehyde, etc. through catalytic oxidation; it can be used to produce halogenated butanes through halogenation; it can be used to produce nitrobutane through nitration; it can be used to produce carbon disulfide under high temperature catalysis; it can be used to produce hydrogen through steam conversion. In addition, butane can be used as a motor fuel admixture to control volatile components; it can also be used as a deasphalting agent for heavy oil refining, a wax precipitant in oil wells, an overflow agent for secondary oil recovery, a resin foaming agent, a refrigerant for converting seawater into fresh water, and an olefin agent Grörer polymerization solvent.

In case of leakage, personnel in the leaking contaminated area should be quickly evacuated to the upwind area and isolated, entry and exit should be strictly restricted, and the source of leakage and fire should be cut off. It is recommended that emergency response personnel wear self-contained positive pressure respirators and anti-static work clothes. Industrial covering layers or adsorbents/absorbents should be used to cover sewers and other places near the leak point to prevent gas from entering. In addition, proper ventilation is required to accelerate diffusion. It can be diluted and dissolved in spray water. It is recommended to build dikes or dig pits to contain the large amount of wastewater generated. If possible, use an exhaust fan to send the leaked gas to an open area or install appropriate nozzles to burn it. It should be noted that leaking containers should be properly handled and repaired and inspected before use.
