Linde announces largest single investment in history

2024-09-27

Linde is a global multinational cHemical company founded in Germany and, since 2018, domiciled in Ireland and headquartered in the United Kingdom. Linde is the world's largest industrial gas company by market share and revenue. It serves customers in the healthcare, petroleum refining, manufacturing, food, beverage carbonation, fiber-optics, steel making, aerospace, material handling equipment (MHE), chemicals, electronics and water treatment industries. The company's primary business is the manufacturing and distribution of atmospheric gases, including oxygennitrogenargonrare gases, and process gases, including carbon dioxideheliumhydrogen, ammonia, electronic gases, specialty gases, and acetylene.

Recently, Linde announced that it has signed a long-term agreement with Dow to supply clean hydrogen for Dow's Fort Saskatchewan Path2Zero project.

Linde will invest more than $2 billion to build, own and operate a large-scale clean hydrogen and atmospheric gas production facility in Alberta, Canada.

It is reported that the integrated facility will use an autothermal reforming process combined with Linde's proprietary HISORP® carbon capture patented technology to produce clean hydrogen, while recovering hydrogen from the exhaust gas emitted by Dow's ethylene cracker.

In the first phase, Linde will provide clean hydrogen, nitrogen and related services to support Dow in building its world's first integrated net-zero emission ethylene cracker and its derivatives production plant. The new production facility will also provide clean hydrogen to existing and new industrial customers who are committed to decarbonizing their operations. Ultimately, the complex is expected to capture and store more than 2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.

The complex is expected to be completed in 2028. By then, it will not only be the largest clean hydrogen production facility in Canada, but also one of the largest clean hydrogen production facilities in the world. This investment is another masterpiece of Linde in the global clean hydrogen field after successfully supplying clean hydrogen to a large blue ammonia plant project on the Gulf Coast of the United States. It is also Linde’s largest single investment to date.
